As of April 2020, TikTok reported around 500 million monthly active users. Why TikTok is so popular and why it's can attract most people eyes? When we open the phone, we could watch the TikTok without considering.

Following the videos, we can know the TikTok is a short video creation application that allows users to sing, dance, act, or mime audio clips or pre-recorded songs, which is just only 15 seconds short videos. beyond this, Young people crave micro-entertainment and short bursts of distraction. This is one of the main appeals of TikTok. Videos are fun, short, and trendy.

TikTok still has a “For you” feed that shows a random assortment of videos from others. This mechanism offers an endless thread of new things to watch and fuels the highly addictive nature of the app. Looking at the videos, it provides short videos so casual.

What’s good about the “For You” feed is - it shows content from users that you wouldn’t typically follow. It’s perhaps another reason why TikTok is such an appealing platform. The app allows those with even the smallest followings to “go viral” and become online celebrities overnight. TikTok also has the standard features that you’d expect from a social network including direct messages and the option to “like” videos.

Comparing the Youtube

TikTok can easier for creators since the content is shorter and requires less budget than YouTube videos.
It can be used to reach Generation demographics because it has a large population of them.
There is a great engagement on TikTok when it comes to challenges and hashtags.

However, Youtube users require higher production values to make a video than TikTok, and its algorithm favors longer videos and channels that are updated regularly. Besides, it is harder for newcomers to get noticed.

As we all know video marketing has become a major part of just about every artist’s marketing campaign and has fueled an uptick video content creation. But choosing which platform to release said content on has become a tricky choice and often depends on which meshes better with a given artist’s brand. So following the above reasons, the TikTok is undoubtedly to become popular.

TikTok gives the freedom to express creativity to people from all the sections of the society, irrespective of gender, class, caste, or sexuality. So we need to trust that TikTok is changing the people's habits and it must be occupied the large parts of the world.

  2. Hi Jiahui,
Great post! While I am not an avid TikTok user, I understand why younger generations of people enjoy using the app. The video clips, while they are quite short, still succeed in exhibiting emotional reactions from the viewers. Even though YouTube has become an effective way for organizations to market their brands, TikTok videos are easier to make, as you stated, which makes them an attractive option for brands around the world. That being said, I see TikTok being used more and more by corporations as a way of fostering brand awareness in the future.

  3. Hi Jiahui,

Awesome post! As someone who frequently scrolls through tik tok, I totally agree that it has taken over social media. You're right that the FYP (for you page) is what makes tik tok stand apart from other apps. You see videos from people you probably never would have been following in the first place, which is super cool. The short clips and videos are pretty unique to tik tok- my friend was telling me recently that she thinks tik tok has ruined her attention span and that she can't even get through an episode of anything on Netflix... wonder how long this tik tok hype will last.
